MMOC

Shave of the Day
August 27, 2013

•Omega cream
•EverReady 200M boar brush
•Gem Micromatic Open Comb razor
•Gem coated stainless steel blade
•Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla aftershave

Day three of Gem week

I received the EverReady 200M brush a few weeks ago with a batch of razors. I washed it with shampoo. Now it smells like the boar is in my bathroom. I let it sit with Tabac overnight, but still has a boar smell. Hope it wears off soon. The brush has the softest boar I have ever experienced.

The MMOC is still the top Gem in my den.

iKon Slant

Shave of the Day
August 23, 2013

•Proraso green tub soap
•Kingsley badger brush
•iKon slant razor (1)
•Astra SP blade (1)
•Proraso aftershave

Lather the Proraso thick. Here comes the long awaited iKon Slant. Still in very short supply the hunt is like the hunt for the Cabbage Patch Doll. I usually don't participate in the almost futile attempt to snag items in short supply. But, for this one, I calmly placed the order with Bullgoose, and waited for delivery.

Here it is.

My full review will be after a week or so of use, but I can say that it does make a lot of noise as it works and I was ready to shave with it again as soon as I finished the first shave.

The Astra blade seemed like a good first choice since I know its sharpness and Astras perform well in all of my razors.

Proraso start and finish, what could be better?

•D R Harris Windsor soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette black handle Super Speed
•Gillette 7 o'clock Platinum blade (2)

The Harris Windsor soap makes a great lather. The Super Speed makes fast work of the whiskers. The Clubman is a perfect finish.

iKon Open Comb

Shave of the Day
August 19, 2013
•Tabac!
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•iKon open comb head with Shavecraft bulldog handle
•Shark Super Chrome blade (3)
•Pinaud Clubman aftershave
Tabac is a great start with thick easy to build lather and a scent that is solid and classic (and I can't describe it).
The iKon head is configured to provide an efficient and close shave.
Clubman is a great finish to any shave.
I am waiting for the iKon Slant. Maybe Thursday. Phil at Bullgoose has been great with keeping me informed.
I also have a Fatboy on the way. It is going to be a good week.

Weber Stainless Steel Razor

Shave of the Day
August 18, 2013

•D R Harris Windsor soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Weber polished head with bulldog handle
•Shark stainless blade (2)
•Lucky Tiger Bay Rum

Windsor is a great soap and a great scent. The EverReady brush is a bit of a problem. It loses about 10 hairs a day. At that rate, it won't last very long.

The Weber with the Shark blade works very well.

Lucky Tiger Bay Rum finished the shave with a great bay scent.

August 17, 2013

•Van Der Hagen soap
•EverReady c40 boar brush
•Gillette Standard (old type) 1917
•Gillette Silver Blue Blade (4)
•Mennen Skin Bracer

The van Der Hagen soap works adequately for me. The old type is an efficient razor. A great finish with Skin Bracer.

Cobra Classic

Shave of the Day
August 16, 2013

•Arko stick soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Cobra Classic Razor
•Kai Captain Titan Mild blade (5)
•Pinaud Clubman aftershave

The Cobra Classic is still my number one razor. I get a fast, easy, close and fast shave. I do experience minor difficulty in shaving the area just under my nose.

The Arko stick produces a great lather with little effort. Finishing with Clubman...it's going to be a great day.

Gem Micromatic Open Comb

Shave of the Day
August 15, 2013

•Proraso cream
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gem Micromatic Open Comb razor
•Gem stainless steel blade
•Mennen Skin Bracer Winter Spice aftershave

The Micromatic Open Comb is my favorite razor. (Don't tell my other favorites, the Cobra, the iKons, the Weber, the slant).

The air here in Trenton has a Fall like crispness. Proraso menthol and Skin Bracer Winter Spice seems appropriate.

iKon open comb bulldog handle razor

Shave of the Day
August 14, 2013

•D R Harris Windsor soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•iKon open comb head and bulldog handle razor
•Shark Super Chrome
blade (2)
•Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla

Second day with the iKon Shark combination. The Windsor soap provides excellent lubrication. The razor is a bit on the aggressive side, so I need to watch my technique.

Classic Vanilla is a great way to end a shave.

iKon Open Comb with Bulldog Handle

Shave of the Day
August 13, 2013
•Pre De Provence soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Ikon Open Comb head, Bulldog handle
•Shark Super Chrome blade (1)
•Pinaud Clubman aftershave
The iKon Open Comb is a great razor. Added to my toolbox is the Bulldog Handle. The handle I bought with the OSS head was too long for my liking. The Bulldog handle is just right for me.
Pre De Provence is always a refreshing soap. The OC razor worked efficiently with the Shark Super Chrome.
The Clubman is always a great finish. A scent that you might remember from childhood, a visit to the barber, a scratchy neck from the hair, ...and the scent of Clubman.

Gillette Standard Old Type

Shave of the Day

August 12, 2013

•Omega Shaving Cream
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette Standard (old type) 1917
•Gillette Silver Blue blade (3)
•Mennen Cooling Blue Skin Bracer aftershave

Back to the past; the Gillette old type Standard from 1917. This razor can dangerous, but used correctly, it is one sweet razor.

I am liking the Omega, but I still would pick the soap over the cream.

The Cooling Blue is a great finish to the shave.

Gillette Black Handle Super Speed

Shave of the Day
August 11, 2013

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•EverReady C40 Brush
•Gillette Black Handle Super Speed R2 (1971)
•Gillette 7 o'clock Platinum blade (1)
•Brut Dominant aftershave

A big jump from 1940 to 1971. The SuperSpeed was among the most ubiquitous of the Gillette DE line. By 1971, this could have been my first razor.

Easy to load, easy to use and easy to clean.

A great shave with the SuperSpeed and the Gillette 7 o'clock Platinum blade.

The TOBS Lavender produced a thick lather with a calming scent.

Finishing with Brut Dominant. The scent reminds me of Grey Flannel. It is probably too strong of a scent for work, so I am using it on weekends.

Gillette Milord Razor Week

Shave of the Day
August 10, 2013
•Proraso green tub soap
•EverReady boar brush
•Gillette Milord Razor
•Bluebird blade
•Brisk aftershave

Last day for the Milord, and what a great trial for a new (to me) razor. I have no complaints , and could survive with it as my sole razor.

The Bluebird blade performed so well that I probably could get a few more days out of it if I had to.

However, It is time to switch.

The Proraso is always refreshing, and I could use it daily.

Brisk is a Skin Bracer simile, but I find the scent to be even better.

Gillette Milord TTO

Shave of the Day
August 9, 2013

•Omega Shaving Cream:(
•Kingsley badger brush
•Gillette Milord razor
•Bluebird blade (6)
•Old Spice O S aftershave

I don't like creams, but for the third time Amazon sent a cream when I ordered a soap. The invoice lists what I ordered, but they picked the wrong product. At least the Omega products are packaged identically, with the only difference being the word soap vs cream. Last time I got two tubes of Proraso when I ordered Tubs.

Enough complaining, the Omega was great. The Milord again performed well with no sign of pulling, even on the sixth use of the blade.

O S is a great finish to any shave. I love the citrus base. My supply is almost gone.

It's Friday!

Shave of the Day
August 8, 2013
•La Toja stick soap
•EverReady boar brush
•Gillette Milord razor
•Bluebird blade (5)
•Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla aftershave

My run with the Milord has been great. The shave is close and efficient.

My first use of the La Toja. A great addition to my arsenal.

Finish with Clubman Classic Vanilla.

Almost Friday.

Gillette Milord Razor

Shave.of the Day
August 7, 2013
•Tabac soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette Milord razor
•Bluebird blade (4)
•Mennen Skin Bracer

The Milord continues to provide a great shave as I adjust my technique. The boar brush still has an odor, but eventually it will start to smell more like the soaps I use and less animal like.

I have broken in several brushes in the past, and they all take some time.

My shave finished with Skin Bracer, regular scent.

Milord

Shave of the Day
August 5, 2013

•Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette Milord Tech TTO razor
•Bluebird blade
•Mennen Skin Bracer Dry Lime aftershave

Another great shave with the Milord. Just a tad more aggressive than a Superspeed. Not as aggressive as a red tip.

I don't actively collect TTO razors, yet I have acquired quite a few, spanning 30 years or so.

Lavender is my favorite scent for soap. I have the TOBS and a refill for the DR Harris bowl.

Now to the finish. Dry Lime is a discontinued scent. Wonderful citrus scent.

Milord a Gillette

Shave of the Day
August 5, 2013

•D R Harris Windsor Soap
•EverReady C40 Boar brush
•Gillette Milord razor (1940)
•Bluebird blade (2)
•Aqua Velva Redwood aftershave

The D R Harris soap makes a great lather quickly. The brush was purchased perhaps 20 years ago, but today is its third use. Typical boar so new odor.

Second day with the Milord. Just a bit more aggressive than a superspeed.

The Aqua Velva pairs well with the Windsor. (Sorry that it is no longer available).

Make every day count!

Gillette Milord Razor (1940)

Shave of the Day
August 4, 2013

•Pre De Provence soap
•EverReady C40 boar brush
•Gillette 1940 Milord razor
•Bluebird chromium ceramic platinum tungsten blade (1)
•Pinaud Clubman aftershave

First shave with this razor. Thought it was a Ranger Tech, but in gold, it is a Milord. The case is a Milord case.

Nice shave. Bluebird blade pairs well. Pre de Provence makes a great lather and has a great botanical scent. Clubman is a classic finish to any shave.

Happy Sunday!

Gillette 1941 Ranger Tech Razor

Acquired this 1941 Ranger Tech today. Found in a thrift store, it had a case too.

Gillette made the Ranger Tech in 1941 and 1946. World War II intervened.

The 1941 has writing on the band, no writing on the blade base, and no endcaps.

I will be trying it tomorrow.

Gillette New Improved (1924)

Shave of the Day
August 3, 2013

•Mama Bear Bay Rum soap
•EverReady boar brush
•Gillette New Improved razor (1924)
•Astra platinum blade (6)
•Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum aftershave

Last day for the New Improved. It shaves like a dream. I don't know how long my grandpa used it, but it was well worn when I acquired it in 1974.

I used it from 1974 through 1982, but I did not take it to college ( I used a Schick injector). It was not just the start of my collection, it was the start of my love for vintage razors and wet shaving.

Today's shave includes Mama Bear soap and Pinaud VIBR. The nautical themed aftershaves are appropriate because I recall my grandfather as a boat builder and a boat captain.

The Astra blade is still performing well on shave 6.

Gillette New Improved Tuckaway vs. Traveler

The New Improved Tuckaway had a small handle and fit with a blade box in a case the size of a cigarette case.

The Traveler set included a full sized New Improved standard razor with a blade box and two tubes, one for soap and the other for a brush. The kit also included a mirror in a pocket in the lid.

Finally, a photo of the Tuckaway with an original Gillette blade.
